Intrapartum Care (Birth)
• Birth Team from early labor to finish
• Supporting the birthing “couple”
• Full labor assessment, including dilation, effacement, fetal position, blood pressure monitoring, fetal heart tone monitoring
• Pain management without drugs
• Relaxation including, massage, aromatherapy, water therapy, etc.
• All equipment for birth provided by either the midwives or included in the birth kit
• Emergency equipment if needed
• Water birth available upon request
• Techniques for avoiding perinieal tears including warm oil massage, warm compresses, gentle second stage coaching
• Full family involvement with birth process
• Parents have option of “catching” newborn at delivery
• Parents choice as to who cuts the cord (siblings love this)
• Herbal Bath prepared for mom and baby
• Baby never left alone
• Full newborn assessment done in the presence of the parents
• Prepared with emergency equipment if necessary
• IV Antibiotics available for Strep B positive moms
• Information record provided
• Antibiotic ointment for eyes of the newborn (State Requirement)
• Breast feeding assistance
• Postnatal instructions given in writing and verbally
• Newborn metabolic screening (PKU)
• Birth team holds CPR certificates as well as a current Neonatal Resuscitation certification
Postnatal Care
• Birth Certificate Filed
• Social Security Number arranged
• As many postnatal visits as necessary for the parents lasting for 8 weeks
• Lactation Consultant arranged
• Continuing breast-feeding assistance
• Continuing assessment of infant well being
• Continuing assessment of maternal well being
• Family dynamics/Sibling advice
• Family planning counseling
Labor and Delivery:
• My clients are encouraged to call me anytime of the day or night if they think they are in labor.
• My assistants and I will be with you throughout your labor and birth.
• Ladies are encouraged throughout labor to eat and drink to fuel their bodies.
• Second stage (pushing) is gentle and quiet.
• Onlookers can be as few or as many as you chose.
• The babies are put directly on the mom's tummy for instant bonding.
• Father's are welcome to catch. Children are encouraged to touch and bond with baby.
• Mom and baby go into a soothing herbal bath. Baby is alert and happy!
• Newborn exam is done on the bed with mom and everyone invited to watch!
• We will stay with you after your birth making sure baby is nursing and mom is recovering well.
